French DJ’s have helped put house music back on the map. Young beatsmith, Terrence N’guyen, also known as Dariushas infused several genres of dance music to create a downtempo oasis of chill “Breakfast House”. A member of FKJ’s label, Roche Musique, Darius has provided a breath of fresh air in a stuffy soundscape of musicians trying to sound different. Instead of scaling up, Darius scales down and blends warm beats and soulful vocals to create an intimate showcase of his talent. Mixing elements of house, disco, and funk – the final product sounds like an upbeat mashup of James Blake and Ta-Ku.
Darius is also a member the electronic duo, Cherokee, known for their hit single “Don’t Matter”.
Darius recently released his first full length L.P. titled Utopia. Highlights include the single Cyan, which is a chilling journey through time and space. The chorus drops in a groovy little wave of head bobbing pleasure and the overall song has a nice glossy underwater finish. Pyor is another highlight, who’s upbeat disco groove will have you dancing in no time.
I didn’t think I would get the chance to see Darius until a random festival side stage but to my surprise, he’ll be playing at the Fox on February 17th supporting MØ and Cashmere Cat. Not a huge fan of either headlining artist (lackluster performance from CC at the Observatory and not too familiar with MØ’s music), but I’ll end up going to support my boy Darius!
